Over the past few weeks we have watched a few horror movies “Jaws, “The Others”, “Signs” and “Frankenstein I’ve chosen to compare 3 movies by their techniques used to create suspense and fear: “Jaws”, “Signs” and “The Others” from my opinion I think the movie “Signs” did the best job in using the proper techniques to create suspense and fear in addition the director of the movie “Signs”, M. Night, Shyamalan, has been nominated for 2 Best Screenplay awards and 1 Best Director award for the movie “Signs” alone.

Second in the movie “The Others” when the mom was in the room that had covers over objects the moment she unveiled the white cover the music played and it was fast, harsh music that would've had the effect to startle the viewer. The difference between the music used in “The Others and the music used in “Signs” is that in “The Others” they used more instrumental music (composed of violins) to match the era they're in but on the other hand in “Signs” they used more of an electronic music. in the movie “Jaws” there were numerous examples of foreshadowing one excellent example is when the camera moves inside the shark's skeletal jaw given the obvious here that people were killed by a shark not a boat compared to the movie “Signs”, “Jaws” did a better job of foreshadowing but on the other hand “Signs” kept its movie a tad bit mysterious. In the movie “The Others” examples of foreshadowing is at the beginning when Mr. Tuttle stated “I imagine he's dead, just like all the others” given the obvious here Mr. Tuttle just said everyone one is dead, another example when the new servants introduced Lydia they said “she's older than she looks” means that Lydia died a long time ago. Compared to “Jaws” and “Signs” in my opinion I say that “The Others” gave away the whole movie at the beginning while in “Signs” and “Jaws” have weaker foreshadowing, to prove my point in both movies “Signs” and “Jaws” the whole movie is revealed through a series of “foreshadows” and it became really obvious later on but in the “The Others” when Mr. Tuttle states “I imagine he's dead. Just like all the others” it was hardly audible and it was really easy to miss to conclude I think that the movie “The Others” has the strongest foreshadowing.
