In addition to technical skills learned in school, the BLS states that creativity, communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving skill are crucial (“Mechanical”). The BLS describes the tasks and duties of Mechanical Engineers as analyzing problems, designing problem solving devices, developing and testing the device, analyzing test results, and overseeing the manufacturing of the device. Many of these tasks are completed on the computer, making it vital for mechanical engineers to also be proficient with computers (“Mechanical”).
