First semester’s Molecular Biology course revised most of the cell biology concepts that I learned from my undergraduate studies and gave insights into advanced cell biology. To complement our understanding, we were assigned to read high impact scientific journal articles as a daily class assignments. Having developed the analytical skills to understand the journal articles, it became extensively helpful tool for my professional internship. One of my primary responsibilities in my internship was to develop technology assessments for the disclosed health …show more content…
It was about 18 year old Jesse Gelsinger death while participating in a gene therapy trial at the University of Pennsylvania due to lack of informed consent and eligibility criteria for participation. Human genome project is other issue that is of major concern to privacy breach. With the advanced technology in genome sequencing and analysis, we are now able to decipher human genome. However, this leads to problems like patient future health concerns. One his/her genome sequence was known, using current bio-informatics databases we can predict about any possible development of chronic diseases in the future. Once if the information is public, concerns with privacy raises leading to issues such as health care insurance or with his/her potential employers. We came to a conclusion that either research conducted in life science or for that matter any other discipline, has to be conducted responsible throughout the process from the early stage development of the drug/therapy till it goes to patient in need. Stem cell therapy and gene therapy will make significant impact in the future therapies and it needs great deal of attention towards ethical conduct. Hence, I believe it is necessary to have a regulatory bodies such as NIH, FDA, and USDA animal and welfare, to set some standard codes of morals and monitor them in the life science
