Technical dimension represents the “science” of project management while the sociocultural dimension represents the “art” of managing a project. A success is expected only when project manager is trained in both the technical and the sociocultural side of managing projects and is able to integrate and balance the two dimensions (Larson & Gray, 2010).
A Chinese symbol, called the Ying-Yang symbol, best illustrates the integration and overlapping of technical and socio-cultural dimension of management in project management. This symbol indicates that there are two parts interdependent and interconnected to each other. The same principle applies for projects to succeed; it should balance both the technical and sociocultural dimensions of the project management (Haugan, 2006).

The case “A Day in the Life” presents the one day routine of Rachel who is one of the project managers working in a large information system project. She has a well prepared plan from morning to evening including relaxation breaks at noon. This demonstrates her inclination towards the job which is a must factor for any project manager. Because of her hard work manual, her project seems to be on schedule which again demonstrates how well planned Rachel is towards her job. Every day, she reports to her boss about the project progress. Rachel not only concentrates on her project, but also helps her fellow manager in his project so as to bring the already lagging project on scheduled track. Other than usual routine works such as receiving queries, replying to emails and day to day function, she keeps harmony with all other colleague by meeting them at least for a moment, either in lunch or somewhere in the stairs.
