Tech Valley Collaboration Case Summary

Looking at the Collaboration for Civic Change system case, it is important to understand that there are two processes taking place. The primary, over-arching goal of the community of Tech Valley is to take advantage of the current surge of economic growth. That means extracting as much good fortune out of the recent growth as possible by growing the technological industry and creating and keeping jobs in the community. The process at work is the primary subject of the case. In essence, the Tech Valley Collaboration was put in place to support the overall goal of the community of Tech Valley. The Collaboration hopes to offer support for the community by bringing together stakeholders from all sectors of Tech Valley to work together and ensure that all of Tech Valley’s citizens are given the opportunity to succeed in the developing economy. It is because of these two process that there are two flow rate channels on Tech Valley’s system dynamic model. This is evidenced by looking at the web of information flows that result in a number of positive feedback loops, overall. For example, if you remember that the model assumes that the Tech Valley Collaboration flow rate channel essentially acts as a reinforce of the community of Tech Valley’s information channel, it is easy to see feedback loop R1 is maintaining a perpetual stream of collaboration through events such as the Tech Valley Civic Forum and the Tech Valley Futures event. In addition, feedback loops R2, R3 and R4 show an overall feedback loop of reinforcement assuming the the Collaboration are providing information regarding job opportunities, including stakeholders from all sectors, and reaching out to minorities/underrepresented
