Clinical Reflection: Teamwork, Communication, And Confidence

Teamwork and collaboration, good communication, and confidence are the three strengths I believe I demonstrated during this rotation. My clinical rotation as a student nurse did not only imply observing the providers, but also meant active participation on my part. Being engaged, enabled me to put into practice what I have learned in theory. The first day of my rotation, the nurse permitted me to augment the Pitocin dose by two units after 20 minutes. I thought that was exciting because I learned about the medication in the class and participated in administering it. When the patient was in labor and began pushing, I aided in supporting one of her legs while the nurse supported the other. I think it was truly amazing to see a child being brought into the world. The postpartum care was also a teamwork. While my preceptor was getting the ice pack, I filled the peri-bottle with warm water and placed dry tower on the bathroom floor to prevent falls. Teamwork and collaboration and good communication skills are essential in my future rotation and future career because a team not an individual is required to provide care for the patients. Good communication will help to prevent unwanted outcome(s). Therefore, learning how to communicate and collaborate with others will be beneficial especially for the patients. Confidence will most certainly enable me to apply acquired skills and knowledge in future clinical rotations and to make the transition from theory to practice as a novice
