Last June, Morgan Kent crossed the finish line at the end of the 10k FitSpirit Celebration run, improving on her previous year’s 5k goal. This June, she’ll be returning to the finish line, this time to cheer on the other girls with a camera in hand to catch the moment of, “I did that” - a look of sheer accomplishment and pride on the participants’ faces as it sinks in that they’ve reached their personal goals. The FitSpirit Celebration comes at the end of every 8 to 10 week training program that takes place out of the 250 high schools across Ontario and Quebec. In Morgan’s time with the training program, she’s experienced a full circle of support that began in Grade 11 when she first became a participant, to now being an ambassador for the program as an alumni.…
For this assignment, I attended a Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) chili cook off event followed by a student dance. This event was held at Eastern Randolph high school in Ramseur, North Carolina. This is a small school surrounded primarily by agriculture and Ramseur is a small town of less than 2,000. The community members are mostly alumni of the school and have had generations attend Eastern. Because of this connection, the community is big supporters of school athletic events and other performances.…
In October they are having their “Baby Carry” fundraiser. During that event, the March of Dimes team will be having different promotional outreaches across campus to spread the word about the cause. They are going be holding a poster contest for students to participate in. The contest is a way for students to show creativity to spread awareness towards pre-maturity. The team with the winning poster will receive five free tickets to their next big event, The Purple Tie Fair, happening November 18th in the Conference Center.…

On November 12, the men and women’s cross-country teams finished their current season. The season ended with the team’s competing in a national meet in Mississippi where the men placed 8 of 17 and the woman’s team 11 of 14. Clint Woods, cross-country coach, stated in an email that this season’s focus to run as a group during meets had a positive impact on the teams. “Developing the ability to run as a team has been our biggest strength.
