Team Teaching Lesson Plan Analysis

I believe that our team-teaching lesson plan went as planned. Although there are some areas of improvement, the overall experience was something that I have never done before. I have taken the feedback that the other group members have given to better understand what I would do if I were to ever teach a team-teaching lesson again. I think that this was a great experience as I gained knowledge and a better understanding on how to go about teaching a tam-teaching lesson. Making the lesson plan as a team was very fast and efficient. We were able to work together and even break parts of the lesson up for each group member to fill in. Based on the first time we explained what our lesson plan was we received some feedback from a group, which we …show more content…
I believe that our lesson incorporated food as a way to show traditions within a different culture that each student may have. This can be problematic because in some school districts there is a restriction on the type and how food is prepared. In the Iowa City School District there are strict rules that only store bought food that is sealed can be used within classrooms as well as no foods with peanuts due to allergies. I think that bringing a physical item such as the ones recommended would be a better option. Sending home a newsletter to parents to understand what would be appropriate items would be a great way to go about this issue. I also believe that incorporating a children’s’ book about culture would be a great way to engage students into the activity. I believe that having students read about different cultures and finding picture books could be a great way to help student visualize what different cultures appear as. I also believe that this lesson could be used in upper elementary by providing chapter books that explore the topic of culture. I believe that all grade levels could benefit from reading about a culture that resembles their own, but also teaches them about another culture as well. I think that these suggestions are very thoughtful and I would add them within my …show more content…
I believe that this is a teamwork effort that is put into this team-teaching lesson. Without everyone on board the lesson can become not as effective. I would split the lesson up into however many teachers are teaching the lesson. Making sure that transition is incorporated as much as possible. I would rehearse the lesson with each team member making revisions as needed, but the goal being that all the teachers understand what they are teaching. I believe that my team members and I did a good job for this being our first team-teaching lesson. I personally enjoy teaching a lesson on my own, but if there was a topic that I did not know much about and another teacher did I think that a team-teaching lesson would be great in that type of situation. I do plan to use team-teaching lessons when I become a teacher, but I do prefer to teach on my

Although I did have some lessons that were not that successful I found this to be my most successfully applied plan and activity. I credit this to my choice of using direct instruction as I felt it was appropriate and worked effectively with the class I was teaching. Research has found that direct instruction has the ability to, increase motivation, is an appropriate method for knowledge attainment and assisted in closing the knowledge gap between students (Glogger-Frey, et al. 2015 p. 83). When applying this lesson, I saw most these aspects reflected, especially the motivation of the class.…

I also like the challenge of getting the student engaged in what is being taught. Each student is different and some students have so much potential, but they are not given enough attention to reach it. When you find what that student is interested in and can relate to them in some way it opens up so many doors to their learning and your teaching. If I could take all of the teachers that can teach and put them into one single person that would be how I want to teach and manage my classroom. I think it would be amazing if I could get all of my students to leave whatever is bothering them that day outside and have their full attention, but the chances of that happening are low.…

I plan or alter what I am teaching based on what my students have shown that they have mastered or not mastered. I think many teachers feel pressured to get through the curriculum, therefore, they rush through activities to finish. Nonetheless, it is refreshing to know that lesson plans should change and be flexible. With that being said, teachers need to utilize research based strategies when planning lessons and should continuously assess students to see what they need help with. For example, my school is a thinking map school and these organizers have been proven to be successful in aiding students with reading comprehension and writing.…

There are many times that I plan out differentiation for my students on my lesson plans, but I have some trouble implementing them once I start teaching. I get so caught up with the original task at hand that I forget that all students learn at different levels. In turn, I teach to all the students who can learn due to the methods of teaching that I have provided. Students who cannot learn from the way that I am teaching tend to fall into the background. I feel that if I had prepared myself to provide the intervention or remediation assignments to the students that need it I would be able to help students learn at their own pace and at a higher rate.…

Shared reading is one of the important ways to teach children how to read and understand print concepts. Sometimes the best way to help your students to understand literature is to first read it aloud and discuss the literature (Cooper, 2000). This will also help activate knowledge that the children already know while helping them develop vocabulary.…

Improving teaching methods is an ongoing process that requires the whole learning community. I enjoyed the whole peer review process since it involved seeing the work my co-learners were producing and also sharing different ways to improve our assignments. It is a lot different than collaborative works, that I have done in the past, because usually everyone does a chunk of the work and the others usually only correct for grammar errors. Peer review involved giving real constructive criticism that would affect the other person’s standing, so I had to make sure my recommendations were…

Specifically, the comprehension presentation helped me grow in this standard. We also created various organizers and mind maps that helped sort out how to apply the content. This standard is important because even if I know all of the content, it means nearly nothing if I don’t know how to apply it in my classroom. Learning to apply the content was extremely beneficial to my future as an…

Being able to observe is a great way to find ways to improve lessons, and having someone observe you is a great way to gain feedback for future lessons. Being able to have a co-teacher is very helpful because we each have our own strengths and weaknesses. Being able to work together with the same person for seven lessons has allowed me to learn a lot about myself and my ability to work with others. It was difficult, at first, to adjust to one another’s styles as both teachers and students. Once we were able to get into a rhythm with working with one another, I think we were able to learn a lot from one another.…

Although not every teacher was as prepared as the next, they all knew what they had planned. By having a cluttered classroom, it will distract other students from paying attention. I believe that being an organized teacher will improve the schedule each day. By knowing what I am going to teach at that time, my students will learn a schedule and pattern as they get to know me and my teaching…

Despite what you might be thinking this is also easier said than done, remember not all students are or learn the same. Because different students learn in different ways a good educator must be able to appeal to all of them equally meaning they have to have proper instructional techniques to utilize. The instructional techniques that I intend on utilizing are lecturing, discussion facilitating, and allowing my students to learn on their own all of which are supported by my educational philosophy. I concluded that these three main techniques would benefit my students through personal experience and advice from current educators. Going through school myself, I always learned best through a lecture based class than I did with a work on your own type class, but I realize this is not true for everyone.…
