I thought your presentation was very organized and easy to follow. I was surprised by the salaries that were mentioned. I would have thought a hospital would have paid more to RNs, but since it is a community hospital and not a large university hospital, maybe that is correct. The team nursing approach is a great idea for med-surg. units. Patients are much happier with team nursing because it promotes a more stable RN to patient relationship. Team nursing is the most effective for the nurses and employers as well. Team nursing is the most cost effective with unlicensed staff to licensed staff (Yoder-Wise, 2015, pg. 237). Another positive with team nursing is a better HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers) score.

The one thing I was confused about was the presentation stated on slide #3, that the hospital would care for trauma patients and post surgical patients, but I didn't see any surgeons on staff. We're patients going to be transferred to the facility after the surgery? Also, no mention of an OR was in the presentation. Overall, the presentation was good!

    Jasmine, I liked the points you made about collective bargaining. We, nurses, stand strong when we are together and have common goals to improve our practice. For years nursing wages have not been updated regardless of the job market and the enhanced patient needs and requirements.
