Register to read the introduction… Giving recognition and praise - Recognition is a strong motivator because it is a normal human need to crave recognition, and workers often do not feel they receive enough recognition. To maximize its motivational impact, recognition should be linked to corporate values and personal goals. Recognition and praise are no-cost or low-cost motivators that are powerful. (DuBrin, 2010)

2. Assigning more responsibility to prove employee’s value - It is important to make sure that all team members are working at the edge of their abilities, not beyond their skill set, but enough to keep them engaged and challenged. Our team wanted to delegate the assignments that would help assess whether the team member will excel in that role.
C2a. Utilization of Motivation Strategies or Theories
1. Verbal and written praise hold a lot of power in a group situation. Abraham Maslow demonstrated, with his Hierarchy of Needs, that employees need recognition from their superiors on a successful job done. As our team met on conference calls, and exchanged email communication, I noticed that everyone was conscientious of thanking and praising one another for their accomplishments. When a section was submitted to the team compiler, she was quick to thank them and praise them for their timely submission. If I sent out an email asking for a clarification, I made an effort to express my appreciation for the answer, and include all team members in that email exchange. This praise and recognition generated a feel of mutual admiration and respect among the team members, and helped our team in completing assignments

You know you are taking too long to reach a conclusion when others look bored or finish your sentences for you.
■ Emphasize direct rather than indirect talk: say, “I need your report by noon tomorrow,” rather than, “I’m wondering if your report will be available by noon tomorrow.”
■ Know exactly what you want. Your chances of selling an idea increase to the extent that you have clarified the idea in your own mind. The clearer and more committed you are at the outset of a session, the stronger you are as a persuader and the more powerful your language becomes.
■ Strive to be bold in your statements. As a rule of thumb, be bold about ideas, but tentative about people. If you say something like “I have a plan that I think will solve these problems,” you are presenting an idea, not attacking a person. (DuBrin, 2010)
As our team communicated throughout the course, we were all proficient at including all members in our emails. There was no exchange of information without the entire team being aware of it. This lead to effective communication and successful submission of assignments.
