Team Leader Self Analysis

Improved Essays
After being employed for four years as a direct support specialist in a group home, the opportunity to be promoted to team leader presented itself. I cautiously researched the extent of the job tasks, duties, and responsibilities and weighed them to that of my abilities. I was also required to be on call for at least one week and one weekend per month. I am 44 yrs. old, the mother of five children and the wife of a cancer survivor. Being on call was going to be a challenge because of the responsibilities

All the while, my own personality and beliefs intertwined with their leadership styles to make me who I am today as a leader.…

Leadership Self-Assessment Leadership opportunities present themselves in many ways. Throughout my career, I have assumed leadership roles by overseeing coworkers and training new employees in the intensive care unit (ICU). My leadership style follows the democratic style because I value input from others before making decisions (Davis, 2018). Supplementing the democratic style with a results-driven approach is essential to achieve the best results. As stated by Ulrich, Zenger, and Smallwood (1999), the value of a leader should be determined by results, not only by their qualities and characteristics.…

Over numerous years of schooling the idea that if we do not succeed then we fail has become ingrained into our minds. This mentality has prevented a multitude of people from learning from their mistakes; however, if students learn to recognize their mistakes not as a failure, but as a lesson to learn from, we could all improve ourselves. During my third season on my lacrosse team I was a varsity midfielder. Our team was in the playoffs preparing to play the number one team, Rockhurst.…

In the “Working with Others” section of the self-assessment, I learned that my preferred conflict-handling style is competing. The self-assessment defined competing, as a desire to satisfy ones interest, regardless of the impact on the other party (Prentice Hall’s Self-Assessment Library, 2009). I have always known that I am a competitive person, but never view new that I could possibly be overlooking the interests of my co-workers. In the future, I would like to work on how I handle conflict by making sure that I listen to each team member’s idea and not letting a different opinion from my own upset me. Robbins and Judge state that comprising there this no clear winner or loser, rather a willingness to ration the object of the conflict and…

Leadership Style Self-Assessment 1 After taking the style questionnaire during while studying the Leadership Grid in Northouse; as expected, I found that my leadership style varies, although of the three theories discussed, more closely relates to team leadership. My assessment found my strengths to be with authority compliance (9,1) and team management (9,9). As suggested by Northouse (2012), “The 9,1 style of leadership places heavy emphasis on task and job requirements, and less emphasis on people, except to the extent that people are tools for getting the job done” (p. 79). The Team Management style is based on tasks and relationships. I consider myself more tasks orientated and analytical, while spending less time with my subordinates’ personal issues.…
