Team Diversity Analysis

According to Merriam Webster, diversity is defined as the state of having people who are different races or who have different cultures in a group or organization. There are different types of diversity that can exist on a team such as demographic, psychological, and organizational characteristics. Diversity on a team can be a benefit once a team learns how to create a context that supports diversity. If people have identical knowledge, skills, or perspectives, then there are little reasons to organize them into teams. Miami Heat 2013-2014 team have psychological diversity but they lack diversity in demographics. It is obvious the team skill set is well diverse. Some of the different positions that are on the team are (1) point guard, they are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right players at the right time (2), shooting guard, main objective is to score points for his team. (3) Small forward, position is considered to be perhaps the most versatile of the five main basketball positions. (4) Power forward, they typically play offensively with their backs towards the basket and position themselves defensively under the basket in a zone defense or against the opposing power forward in man-to-man defense and (5) Center, is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. The center's primary role is to use his or her size to score and defend from a position close to the basket (Basketball, 2014). Each of these positions requires a unique skill set that overall enhanced the team abilities to win. Some of players have to be bigger than others and some have to be faster than others.
