When participating in simulated learning experiences, students participate in role-playing scenarios created to simulate real clinical situations. The scenarios are designed to facilitate the development of clinical nursing judgment, critical thinking skills, promote team collaboration, and improve clinical proficiency (Chmil, Turk, Adamson, & Larew, 2015). Simulation has also been shown reduce the anxiety experienced by fundamental nursing students when caring for a patient in the hospital for the first time (Gore, Hunt, Parker, & Raines, 2011). Simulation activities usually take place in a simulation or a skills laboratory depending on the complexity of the scenario and the fidelity level of the simulators being used in the scenario.
