Teaching
With the enormous amount of instructional strategies that exists, the type I will use to teach in my classroom will depend heavily on the students and their needs at the particular moment. The three types of strategies I ideal want to use and be flexible with are interdisciplinary, collaborative, and critical thinking. These strategies can be found on the Teaching Strategies (2015) website with clear and cohesive definitions. I am such a large advocate for literacy and using it often and everywhere which is why I plan to teach with strategies focusing based around interdisciplinary studies. By combining two different contents it allows students to broaden their view and add multiple perspectives to topics. For the second strategy, collaborativeness is vital in the type of classroom culture I plan on setting up. I want my students to be able to teach each other and learn from that. This will allow them more exposure to a variety of views as well work on elaborating their own thoughts and beliefs. Lastly I find critical thinking to be valuable due to the fact that students should be truly understanding content rather than memorizing it. By thinking critically it allows them to be

This would allow students to make and see the connections in the world around them. Another example is using math and science simultaneously to put data together and to visually represent data. When using collaborative strategies I would use a lot of Socrates seminars, partnering up for discussion, and sharing ideas and though to the whole class. Lastly for critical thinking, I would have students analyze texts and find the connections authors make in between the lines. Using an activity like such would help students realize that there is more than one side to reading, thoughts, lyrics,

It is important to make sure that these strategies are used frequently in the student’s classes to help build peer relationships. It is also important to make sure that these strategies are not only about academics. They should also be used as team building opportunities, one way I do this is by having the students do a think pair share about what they are going to do over the weekend, or I have them create a list of their favorite food through a rally write where they take turns writing their favorite…

During first two years of teaching I went through a two year mentor program and during that time we broke down each domain, sub domain and their components. This gave me a deeper understanding of each domain and their components. During this project I had the opportunbity to delve deeper into two specific components 2d: managing student behavior and 3b: using questioning and discussion techniques. In order to gain a better understanding of these components I unpacked them piece by piece. I then provided strategies which were aligned with the components to my co-teacher.…

As my interviewees were explaining to me their opinions and views, I noticed a lot of connections between what they were saying and what I have learned or talked about in class. There is never a bad question when there are discussions in class, and the questions themselves are valued more than the answers. My professor uses a variety of teaching methods because each student has a Personal Learning Plan and different learning preferences. This is seen in our “What’s MY Style?” mini assignment from week one, where we learned about our personal metacognitions.…

I only chose three to discuss but I think that most of them are really important to at least try and implement in the classroom. As a teacher, I will find out that some strategies work and some do not but that is why there are many different options to choose from. I have learned about some of the information within this article in my other classes but we have not really gone into detail, so that is another reason why I liked this article because it provided an example for each strategy. The only connections I have with any of these strategies is what I have seen used in a classroom while observing. Some of the strategies have been used very well and have been successful while others have been used incorrectly or are not at all successful.…

Content area literacy is an important part of a students’ literacy development. My definition is that it is the part of literacy that helps students comprehend different subjects and the information that comes with the content. A student will not be completely successful if they do not fully understand what they are supposed to be learning. This puts a great deal of pressure on our shoulders as teachers to make sure our students can read and write successfully in all content areas. My past experiences with content area literacy has not all been positive.…
