The teacher will prepare sight word flash cards with online sign language symbols below each letter in the word on letter size card stock. Students will read the sight word, spell the sight word, read the sight word, sign each letter in the sight word and read the sight word once again. Materials needed are a sight word list from which to generate sight words for learning, prepared sight word flash cards.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The student will strengthen sight word recognition skills through orally reading sight words, spelling sight words and finger spelling each letter in sight words from prepared sight word flashcards in whole class instruction. The student will exercise fine motor skills, enhancing dexterity and flexibility, thereby strengthening small muscle development all promoting improved handwriting skills. The student will have an added opportunity to reinforce letter names through the finger spelling.

I selected such a resource titled: Early Reading Instruction Intervention. I have found it to be very supportive of the topics presented at the seminar. It reinforced sessions I attended to include: “Success for Struggling Readers: Strategies, Activities & More!” and “The FUNdamentals of Handwriting Instruction.” Both sessions and this resource promote multiple exposures to learning and active participation conducive to the young child. I stand with those who caution overuse of hand-held devices or watching a screen versus engaging in three dimensional play which naturally stimulates fine muscle development necessary to handwriting skills as well as overall school
