In the first article "What reading does for the mind" Anne E. claims that reading makes you a smarter person, the more you read the more you get better and overcome other forms of knowledge that had been transformed in development of the cognitive abilities.
The more you read the more you increase and enrich your vocabulary more than talking or listening.
Reading is the base of learning a language. The research " Teaching Reading Is Rocket Science" shows that a child who does not learn the basics of reading in early stages probably will not learn them at all. children who don't learn how to read well from the beginning, will not master other skills and knowledge and they will not succeed in school or in life. the root cause of low chronically
