You might think that Culinary Arts is just one type of career choice but it’s just a small window to different career paths. Some careers involving culinary arts are: Baking and Pastry Arts, Catering, Executive Chef, Personal Chef, and Wine Sommelier. As similar as they are there are huge differences between them. Baking and Pastry Arts deals with baked goods and pastries. That means you’d have to become a baker or Pastry Chef. Annually they can make from $21,115 to $31,263. The education for this career is learned by doing and practicing than by sitting in classrooms and reading about it. That’s why I love this type of career. Being hands on gives me a different aspect of learning. I can learn to execute all the different skills and techniques by doing, and not by reading or writing how I will do it.
Different jobs acquire different years of education. I plan to travel to attend the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute. There I will achieve my associate’s degree in culinary Arts. I will get a little of everything, from pastries to management. “Those that wish to become more specialized often need advanced training to do so” (MyFootpath.com). Right now I only have thought out what I want to do for the first 2 years after college. I don’t want to think too ahead because what if in the end Culinary Arts isn’t what I thought it would be.
