If I think back far enough, I can still picture it perfectly. I remember sitting quietly in the library during first grade, scary “chapter” books surrounding me. Overwhelming me as I tried to read them even though my young brain wouldn't cooperate, just wanting to discover. Seeing me struggle, my teacher Mrs. Blankenship (I still remember her well) came and sat with me on the small, multicolored beanbags. Not only do teachers such as the one I had influence us as a child, they are an important part of the rest of our lives. I credit her with teaching me how to read longer books because she didn't just make me read, she made me get it. Mrs. Blankenship, a kind hearted woman, allowed me to cry to her whenever I needed to. Letting me vent to her about any little annoyances that could possibly take place in a 6 year old’s life when I felt older than I really was. I still remember her for being one of the molding forces of my life. I would love nothing more than to be that for kids just like me some day. …show more content…
As an elementary school teacher you're not just building the foundation of these children’s educations. You're also building the foundation of their lives. Everything stems from those first few years and you could have such a big impact on those children. I would love to just sit down and thank my first grade teacher. Tell her how much she meant to me. A career in elementary teaching may not make a large sum of money; however, it's all the more rewarding to know the impact I could have on lives of children who need me. To teach children is a blessing in itself. Children may need a figure that they don't quite have in their parents depending on their situation; I would love to be such an important figure in someone's

I believe an effective teacher has multiple different qualities that are strong and unique. An effective teacher is someone that students can look up to and feel comfortable around, but not too comfortable like a friend but comfortable as a teacher they can trust. Being a teacher has a lot of duties and responsibilities that not just anyone could have. An effective teacher should be approachable/ good listener, equally fair to their students, passion for being a teacher, organized/prepared, extremely knowledgeable about their subject matter and hands on with their students. Most importantly an effective teacher is a teacher who wants and does make a difference in their students lives.…

The major I have chosen to pursue at The University of Maryland - College Park, is elementary education. I chose this major because I truly enjoy working with children and hope to help educate the future generations so they can go on to be the best learners that they could possibly be. I aspire to be a role model and not only teach my students, but learn from their experiences too. I understand that teaching is not the job choice that will pay the most, but I believe that by giving back to the community and educating the future doctors, lawyers, presidents and more, I will be paid with more then just money. By teaching, I will have the satisfaction of watching my students succeed and building meaningful relationships with them at such a crucial time in their lives.…

Taking pieces of each one and making a new philosophy of education that encumpasses our growing technological world. Between the five philosophies, perennialism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism, and social reconstructivism, I relate most to John Dewey 's progressivism teaching philosophy.
