My Reflection On Supreme Court Cases In Class

1. Throughout the term, several modes of instruction were employed (e.g., chapter assignments, lecture, video, group work). What would you have liked to have seen more of? Less of? Are there any other additional teaching methods that you would have found useful? The mode of instruction I enjoyed the most was lecture. I thought it was extremely helpful to go over the cases step by step and discuss them together in class. Going over the Supreme Court cases in class motivated me to do the reading beforehand and it was a fun way to learn about the different key terms in the book. It was also fun for me to get to see other people’s point of views on the cases versus how the court ruled. The one thing I think it would have been great to …show more content…
I now have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of criminal law, whereas before I knew essentially nothing. Instead of me trying to memorize all of the vocabulary for tests, I found that in this course I was truly trying to understand the information. I loved that the cases in the book were mainly California cases and that if they weren’t that you made sure we knew how the case would have been ruled in California. This course covered the basics of criminal law concepts and I will definitely take those concepts away with …show more content…
Cases about rape, molestation, child pornography, and prostitution made me feel really uncomfortable in class. It isn’t that I don’t find the cases interesting or important, but more that I don’t know how to handle them properly and tried to avoid them. Due to this, I am challenging myself next semester at SSU by taking a sex offending class. If I want to work in the criminal justice system or possibly go to law school, sex crimes are going to come up and they are something that I am going to have to deal with. I want to be able to openly discuss cases about these topics and know how to handle

    What Is Western Expansion

For me, the most compelling and insightful lesson was lesson 4, the Western Frontier and Expansion. While I hate to admit this, I never paid attention during my history lessons and therefore had incredibly limited knowledge of western expansion and manifest destiny. Through this lesson I was able to look through the perspective of the American settlers as they began expanding into territory that they believed was their god given right. I learned about the powerful religious pull experienced by the colonists and that the doctrine was built on three principles; faith in the Bible, faith alone, and faith in the priesthood. This "faith" many will argue, is merely a poor excuse for the brutal and usually unjust treatment of the Native American Indians.…

This course was defiantly different than what I originally thought it was going to be about. I think that every unit provided interesting topics as well as informative information regarding deviant and criminal acts/behaviors. The different theories to deviant and criminal acts/behaviors were very interesting to me because I like to learn how people do what they do. I also find it very interesting that as society changes, so does their thoughts on what is considered the “norm”, which then changes what is considered deviant. One suggestion that I would make is to have a textbook for the course.…

    1. The judiciary system is a very important system within the United states. The U.S Supreme court follows a strict process to make decisions. The supreme court gets way too many cases so they have to sort through them and this is why there are certain things the case needs to have to be discussed. Some cases are taken to a court and while others get discussed but don’t make it to it.…

In Chicago, there was a nine-year-old girl named Lisa Cabassa was found raped and killed in the back of an alley a couple miles from her home. Two months after the rape and murder of Lisa, a witness named Judy called the police to give her testimony on the crime. Her statement consisted of her telling the police the people involved with the crime were named Michael Evans and Paul Terry, whom were teenagers from the neighborhood. She spotted them with Lisa that night.…

This course was really interesting mainly due to the class dynamic and the energy the professor brought to the class. Going to class was enjoyable for the most part. Out of all the topics we discussed the one I found most interesting was Chapter 2 on the way criminal offenders where punished. I was shocked to read about the many forms of torture and a method of punishment for what we consider in today’s society low risk offenders or first time offenders. For example, getting your hand chopped off for stealing a piece of bread or fruit.…

    1. For a moment, let us consider what would happen if the school remained silent about the activities of the candidates outside the scope of the curriculum and premises. The candidate, in that case, was known as an insider trader who is a student of New York University Stern School of Business. That would have caused a huge loss of reputation for the school resulting in loss of dignity for the school staffs, existing students, past students, and prospective students. Almost all the stakeholders would have affected by the decision.…

However, it has increased my capability to argue and search for data and I think that was an important part of this course since all the assignments were working towards the final Research Argument. Although, I learned new things I still need to work on my synthesis of source since I found that it was a recurring mistake I made throughout some of my assignments. Ultimately, the class has been effective and useful, and my professor has been very helpful and available, even during her office…

A musty room filled with shuffling papers and hushed whispers, a door in the back opens and the bailiff steps through, “all rise,” with two words the entirety of the room is silent. You can’t help but hold your breath watching those in the black robes approach their place on the bench. “You may all be seated,” and the congregation lets out a united, silent sigh. This is where it begins. This room is one of the most sacred and highly honored rooms in the United States; it is the trial courtroom for the United States Supreme Court.…

I think this was a good book for this class. The face that the book gave examples and stories made it easier to relate and understand the material better. One of the sections that I found most interesting was the section about point-of-views for others, more specifically the book was taking about courtrooms. I wrote about this as one of my reflections as well because so many different things had come together for me.…

I believe that this class greatly helped me improve my writing a key area in the legal profession, but I still think I can improve greatly. One of the biggest areas I can improve is in my ability to write in active voice. I know that I write in passive voice quite often and it has always been one of my biggest struggles to write in active voice. This area will continue to be an area where I hope to improve upon the more I write. Due the nature of not having any clients I feel as if it is tough for me to evaluate how I will be as an attorney due to this clinic.…

I know that this class will be very beneficial to me in everyday since the things I learned about are topics that are brought up everyday.…
