I now have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of criminal law, whereas before I knew essentially nothing. Instead of me trying to memorize all of the vocabulary for tests, I found that in this course I was truly trying to understand the information. I loved that the cases in the book were mainly California cases and that if they weren’t that you made sure we knew how the case would have been ruled in California. Cases about rape, molestation, child pornography, and prostitution made me feel really uncomfortable in class. It isn’t that I don’t find the cases interesting or important, but more that I don’t know how to handle them properly and tried to avoid them. Due to this, I am challenging myself next semester at SSU by taking a sex offending class. If I want to work in the criminal justice system or possibly go to law school, sex crimes are going to come up and they are something that I am going to have to deal with. I want to be able to openly discuss cases about these topics and know how to handle
