“All Ag departments are expected to have an FFA Chapter and teachers are expected to act as advisors” (Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas). Being an FFA advisor is almost more work than teaching itself. There are great responsibilities held by an advisor even though The National FFA Association is a student led organization. “Ag teachers should also keep up with their students record books” (Vocational Agriculture Teacher Association of Texas). Keeping up with record books is very important when it comes to students graduating. Most colleges ask for some type of record on student activities participated in within the organization. Introduction and Overview For several years, the FFA has been thought of by many as the “Future Farmers of America.” While farming may have been the fundamentals of this organization, it has evolved into so much more. Therefore, the idea that FFA is merely a farming organization can be exceedingly misleading to those who have little experience or knowledge of this organization. Contrary to popular belief, FFA’s sole purpose is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their leadership skills, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The National FFA consists of 649,355 members, from 7,859 chapters in all 50 states.…

Pre-Teaching Another common general practice that teachers can use to help students with learning disabilities is called pre-teaching. Munk, Gibb, and Caldarella (2010) define pre-teaching as “the advance introduction of information that prepares students for upcoming instruction” (as cited in Berg and Wehby, p. 15). The introduction of difficult concepts and vocabulary can have a significant impact on a student’s progress understanding of new course material. Pre-teaching does not simply have to address vocabulary or concepts for an upcoming lecture. Instead, pre-teaching can be used to review previous concepts learned from a previous section.…

The Northwestern R-I FFA Chapter is looking to reorganize the FFA Alumni. At one point, Northwestern R-I had an FFA Alumni, which was created to support and promote the FFA organization, FFA activities and agricultural education on local, state, and national levels. Personally I think having an FFA Alumni will benefit not only this chapter, but it will also benefit this community and surrounding areas. According to “Starting a local FFA Alumni Chapter Handbook,” FFA is a lifelong organization that begins in the seventh grade and lasts as long as you want it. Members can begin as student members and then activate their alumni membership or they may simply begin as alumni.…

Picture this; you’re walking down the hall to get to your class when you spot two students arguing over something. As you walk pass them, out of nowhere they start fighting. At Orange Preparatory Academy, a kid either gets offended or mad at another kid like the feud between Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj. And so it becomes more clear that kids can possibly get either hurt or injured. A question from Yesenia Urias’s survey was, “What do you think the cause of this issue could be?”…

Chiding Cheating Children Children today are watched especially close for cheating and plagiarism, not because schools trust them less, but because more of them are cheating on assignments than ever before. This is a serious problem that needs to be addresses, as it can cause horrible short and long term consequences. However, there is some debate as to how this should be done. Most of the causes for cheating are well known; laziness, insufficient upbringing, and, believe it or not, stress and anxiety. Typically, people don’t think of the casual ‘B’ student, third grade boy, as suffering from anxiety or stress, so when he is caught cheating the other, more easily correctable, causes come to mind.…

Just as many young children fantasize about, I went through a variety of answers to the question of “what do you want to be when you grow up,” from a firefighter to deep sea diving to an astronaut, until I began to develop my true passion for agriculture. Being a student in an agricultural education class at my middle school many years ago began to open my eyes to the vast agriculture industry. Although not necessarily a bad thing, many of these programs today are focused on educating students on STEM concepts in agriculture. Very few are seen solely as “farming education” programs today, so I consider myself lucky to have had an instructor who was a retired production farmer from the Midwest who taught me real agriculture along with the scientific…

Children literature includes books, magazines, stories and poems that children enjoy. It can be traced to stories and songs which were part of the oral tradition that adults shared with their children before the advent of publication. The development of children literature is difficult to trace. However, from the 15th century AD, a large volume of literature, often with a religious or moral message, has been targeted specifically at children. Many of the children books acknowledged today as classics can trace their origins to the late 19th and early 20th centuries which become known as the Golden Age of children literature.…
