I voluntarily teach dance at Nena Smith's School of Dance in Wesson, Mississippi. Every Tuesday from September through May I see around eighty kids Kindergarten through eighth grade. Teaching has made me a better person. It encourages me to be more outgoing and it builds my confidence. Teaching also allows me to build close relationships with the students I teach.

In July of 2013, my dance teacher asked me to teach. Teaching dance is a dream i had for many years. I remember being so excited when she talked to me about it. Not thinking I imediatly said yes. I started teaching in September of 2013. This was the beginning of my tenth grade year. The past three years I have been promoted several times. When starting out I was a teacher-in-training.

Some of the kids I teach do not have good role models for them to look up to. Sometimes we are the only positivity they ever encounter. One of my main goals is to be a positive role model. Knowing there is always someone looking up to me makes me strive to always do my best no matter what I am doing.

I think of all the kids I teach as little sisters. I love and care about them more than anything. Everyday I am with them I try to make sure they know that they can always come to me and that I am always there for them. They know that no matter what happens, whether they had a bad day at school or they are dealing with personal issues that they can come talk to me and I will be there to listen and offer advice. Teaching has made me become a better

That's what makes it amazing. It's worth it once you have five and six year olds saying they want to be just like you when they grow up. That is why I keep doing this. It's great to know that you are making a difference in their lives.

One thing I have learned from this experience is that you should always be careful what you do and what you say. There are always people looking up to you. The way you act and talk influences them. if you are making bad choices they will follow you and make bad choices themselves. On the other hand if you make good choices they will also follow you and make good choices.

Volunteering to teach dance is the best choice I ever made. I would tell other kids my age that volunteering is one of the best things you can do. It teaches you discipline and respect, while giving you a sense of pride about what you are doing. Volunteering to help others is such a positive way to make a difference is your community. It is a way to give back and repay what others have done for you. I can not think of anything more rewarding than

Three times a week, I volunteer an hour of my time to tutor and guide middle and elementary school students at my former elementary school. Since I was in middle school, I have been the most passionate about math, science, and service, and it was important to me once I reached high school to share these passions with younger students. On some days, I am helping a seventh grader understand the orders of operations, while on other days I am guiding second and third grade Girl Scouts in a craft. These short encounters have been among the most defining experiences in my high school career, and I did not expect to gain from these afternoons as much as the students do. Not only am I helping a younger student develop her skills and values, I am learning more about myself.…

Why do I want to be a Teacher? Teachers have multiple roles in today’s society, and it is upsetting when the teachers out in classrooms do not want to be with their students. The way that teachers hold themselves in the classroom can deeply affect their education, as well as their self-worth from the time when they are in the teacher’s classroom further on, and so it is imperative that they desire to be with their students and desire to make a positive impact. This is one thing that I personally am excited for with becoming an elementary teacher, and I am excited for so much more. I desire to make a positive impact, be a positive role model, build confidence into my students, teach important life-lessons, bring joy into school, as well as teach!…
