I feel it’s important for students to know that their teacher believes in them, and feels that they can be successful even if the student doesn’t feel that way. I have to be able to reassure my learners that I am on their side, and will help them learn as much as possible. I believe that it’s important to express to my students my belief that success can be measured in different ways, not just academically. 1. One of the first questions that I have for Mariah is if she remembers her mother and stepfather and how did this affect you when you were growing up. Although the case study talks about the father being abusive I would want to know about the mother and their relationship. Then I would ask a follow up question and ask Mariah if she tried looking for her parents and what would she get out of it if she tried to look for her parents. Another question I would have for Mariah is if she could tell me more about the babies’ father and what type of relationship did they have.…

She did a study in which she evaluated the behavior of students a prep school called Faircrest High. She states, “Often their behavior contradicts the very traits and values many parents, students, and community members expect schools to instill. As I stepped foot into the classroom for the first time, I brought with me biases and assumptions. Based on the child selection and first impressions, I immediately jumped to the conclusion that she was a “good kid” and would follow the rules. I viewed her as a role model for the other students since she was exemplifying the behavior the teacher was looking for and rewarding. I equivocated her good grades, not causing trouble, and being compliant with “well behaved” and being a “good” child. I assumed that listening to the teacher and excelling in academics were the only qualifying elements for being “good”.…
