My passion to be a teacher in the Catholic school system has started a long time ago when I decided the teaching profession was for me. I was just coming out of my Catholic high school and I had made a decision to take a Bachelor of Health Science Degree, in physical education and biology with the end goal to become a high school teacher. It was during this time when I noticed myself asking for help a lot and depending on God’s plan to determine my success. Personal Statement Jonathan Johnson, Malaysia, English Teaching Assistantship Walking past the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue still feels surreal. I vividly remember sitting in my Grammy’s trailer watching Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, inspired by his journey and message of hope. His humble beginnings—being raised by a single, hardworking mother and grandparents facing financial pressures—partially parallel my story and continue to inspire my work as a community organizer, public opinion researcher, and educator. Unlike the rest of my family, I fortunately attended college, choosing the internationally diverse University of Rochester.…

Why I Teach: During my senior year, the high school I attended offered its first computer class. I eagerly enrolled and learned BASIC on an Apple IIe. My first program was a game similar to Boggle's word search. I meticulously drew up my project plan, spent hours in my room at night working through the logic of my program, carefully entered my code, and, remarkably, it worked! I shared it with my classmates, who then asked me to show them how to bring their own visions to life.…
