From a very young age, I had a passion and desire for a career in the medical field. As I have since fulfilled that dream I have found my longing for medicine has slowly faded away. I stand in my current position in the medical field feeling lost and discouraged. I don’t receive the satisfaction or happiness in my career that I once dreamed of. Within the past year of my career, I’ve had a voice in my head saying, “something is missing.” As I took many months trying to figure out what my heart was veering me towards, I finally had a realization that the teaching portion of my job was what I loved the most. I loved playing school and making-believe there were students I would teach. In addition, the fulfillment and pleasure I feel when I am able to teach my two-year-old son new ideas or concepts fills my body with a sense of achievement and delight. The feeling is indescribable really, but I feel as though teaching is my new calling. So here I am now, pursuing my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and couldn’t be more thrilled about my journey into the teaching field. My goal is to positively enhance student learning and to watch students grow an abundance amount of knowledge. I strive for the “ah ha” moment! I do however know, that with teaching comes struggles. Yes, we live in a technologically advanced world now and it would be a strategic means to incorporate an engagement piece into instruction, but we can’t just assume all of our students have access to technology if we’re not providing it for them. After I have assessed students access to technology, one way I will incorporate it in my classroom is through google documents. Every student will have access and permission to edit a class google document. In the class google document, I will have; questions that tie to a specific lesson or set of lessons, discussion boards on topics I think students would benefit from gaining more perspective from peers on, lesson notes that students can reference for more information, and articles or journal articles that may serve as additional resources for assignments or projects. A class google document will also serve as a great preparation tool for high school students as they embark on future college
