Personal Narrative: What I Learned To Teach An Art Lesson

Improved Essays
Teaching an art lesson was kind of new for me, as I have never seen my CT integrating art into an academic subject. Moreover, it was a challenge for me to create an art class integrated with an academic subject. When I spoke to my CT about creating an integrated art lesson she told me that it will be better for me to teach an art lesson separated from an academic subject, so I spoke to the ancillary teacher to allow me to teach an art class during their time period. The computer teacher allow me to do that, but only gave me one class period to give out an art lesson.
Due to time constrains, the students were not able to finish their self- portraits. In addition, I had some students from different classes which was kind of hard for me to photograph some of the student’s artwork. Furthermore, in the class video I showed the class, some artwork was incomplete as the students did not have enough time to finish their artwork. If I could modify, this lesson I would divide the lesson into two days so the students will have enough time to work on their self-portrait. In addition, I will go at a slower pace, when teaching the lesson. I feel that because I knew that I only had 45 minutes to finish the artwork, I went really fast when giving the lesson. Moreover, I feel that I had a hard time asking students questions

I really liked how the concept of time was incorporated with art. Her lesson involved, teaching the students how to read time in a clock. Then she showed the students two paintings by different artist so the students can create their own clock. I really liked watching the students’ outcome, as I saw that every student were very created with their own clock. In her lesson, I liked the variability of artwork outcomes as they all expressed their own creativity when completing their artwork. Moreover, I feel that all the students will have fun making and decorating a clock at their own

College is a life changing investment that prepares for life and career. The vast spectrum of knowledge, skills obtained, and experiences from a college degree more than compensates for the monetary cost of tuition. Creating art is my passion; I have always wanted to become a great artist ever since I was a child drawing on my walls and copying pictures from books. I have devoted my life to improving my talents by illustrating my own stories, practicing drawing daily, and challenging myself to earning my own money doing what I love by drawing commissions. Learning how to communicate through illustration is a valuable skill that will live with me for the rest of my life and progressing my artist career.…

Today the students were instructed to participate in an art activity as part of a Columbus Day lesson. All of the students finished the assignment in a reasonable time. The fast finishers were given the option to choose an activity they wanted to participate in for free play. Jacob was still working on his assignment and began to notice that he was one of the few students left to finish. He then indicated to me that he could not finish the activity and that it was too hard.…

At times it was difficult to keep the student’s attention. At one point during the lesson he tells me “Why do I have to learn this? This isn’t important. Video games and YouTube is important.” After hearing how the student thinks it made me realize that a lot of the reason he thinks this way is because he struggles with reading and with his class work.…

I didn’t know how to, so we looked up videos on Google. Unfortunately, none of the videos were child friendly, which left me (someone who knows nothing about art and art terminology) to understand the video and then explain it to the student. Now having read both Twigg and Garvis (2010) and Peterson and French (2008) articles I wonder if I had even had just general art knowledge I would I have been able to better answer the students question or I would I have known about better resources for answering the question. Furthermore, I found myself questioning my personal approach to art education but agreeing with the idea that “teachers must acknowledge emotional investment and meaning of art work” (Twigg & Garvis, 2010, p. 199).…

Exiting Pratt Institute with a degree in sculpture into the Big Apple, I held my breath and clutched the edge of my seat. I remembered how confident and prepared I had felt before beginning my college adventure. Having been a part of RAW Art Works for three years before entering Pratt, my RAW family had empowered and gave me skills that I still cherish today. But while studying at school, I quickly realized that the family I had at RAW was not easy to come by or to be recreated. The day I graduated from Pratt, I left feeling incredibly proud of the work and growth I had made as an artist and now young man.…

Before my three week block, one of my PDP goal was to improve my classroom management and time management. For first two weeks, I have been working on these two areas because I did not feel confident in managing the classroom without my co-op teacher there in the kindergarten room. I learned that when I was planning my lesson, I had to think about what time I am teaching and how they are going to respond to my lesson. Since my kindergarten class had strict routine, for first few days, I did not get their full attention because my lesson occurred during their centre time. Throughout my lesson, they would ask when they are going to have centre time, and did not put much effort into their task was one of the things I had to think about as I was…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

There are many lessons to be learned in life, lessons which are learned through conversations, mishaps, and great experiences. One experience I had was a little bit of all three. It was a conversation, started wrong, but nevertheless ended up being a great experience in which I learned an important lesson, that there are times to give up, and times to not give up, and sometimes even though giving up might seem like the right option, not giving up can lead to great success. My senior year of High school was hectic. Not only did I have the stress that comes from school work, I also started working too, to hopefully get some experience, and also, have some change in my pocket.…

Imagine growing up without a voice. That is how I spent my middle and early high school years, silent. Although I was physically and mentally capable of speaking, I kept quiet for fear of judging words and looks from my peers. What set me apart from other students was my sexual orientation. I did not feel confident in who I was until I stepped on my high school’s stage, acting out the struggles of others.…
