Persuasive Speech On Sex Education

No matter who you are or what kind of life you live, sex will play a big part in it. Think about it, how else are you here right now? You are here exactly because of sex. So wouldn’t you want to know everything you could about something that has the power of bringing life into the world? Well some people do not think that should happen. Some schools out there think that teaching an abstinence only sex-ed class is the best way to let kids know about the subject. They think that the best way to inform kids going through puberty and just learning about their body is to teach them to just not have sex until marriage. One thing that can help shape a student 's life is to show them what a healthy relationship looks like. By teaching this in schools, students learn how to treat their sexual partners and in return learn how they to, should be treated. SIECUS (2009) states that a good sex education class can “provide young people with the tools to make informed decisions and build healthy relationships”. (3rd para) Teaching students about relationships I think is probably the most important thing that can be taught in a sex education class. It is a must to have a relationship before sex can happen, so learning to make it a good and healthy relationship is a main priority. If a student can spot the signs that they are in an unhealthy relationship, then they have the time to stop it before it gets worse. If a unhealthy relationship is left to go on then who knows how many problems could arise. Some problems that could arise from an unhealthy relationship as compiled by the Hall Health Center Health Promotion staff (2014) are that “. . . one partner feels obligated to have sex or has been forced . . . Experience yelling or physical violence during an argument . . . Feel pressure to change who you are for the other person”. I am very thankful for the fact that I had the privilege of having one provided by my school and having a teacher that was confident enough to teach us the facts that needed to be taught. In that class I always felt that any question that needed asked was answered and that my teacher went above and beyond to make sure that we were all informed to the best of her knowledge about all things related to sex education. If it was not for that sex education class, I do not know where else I would have obtained the information needed to make safe and smart decisions that would affect my health. Although the internet is a great tool for learning many many things, there is a lot of misinformation out there about all kinds of subjects. The topic of sex education is one that should not be learned from the internet because it is one subject that could majorly change a person 's life in a hundred different ways. By not learning sex education the proper way, teens are more likely to make hasty decisions about sex and end up either obtaining a sexually transmitted disease, become pregnant, or have emotional problems that could last their entire lives. That is why I think that sex education should be taught in schools so that students will know the proper and correct ways on how to prevent STD’s, be able to maintain a healthy relationship as well as have self respect for themselves, and prevent
