Education is a crucial aspect of society, and has an impressive change in the generations that are to come. When I was in my senior year of high school, my english teacher taught me how to express myself through my own descriptive writing. Throughout these years of being a student, I never had a mentor reach out to me in that way with writing. After graduating, I took a year off from school so I could figure out what I wanted to major in. In that time, I realized how influential teachers and professors can be in those years for pupils. Unofficially until moving to a university, I have declared my major as education for English. I couldn’t be more excited for this journey I am currently taking on, full of expressions for my love of purely wanting to gain more knowledge and educating. …show more content…

Being open-minded to diversity and new experiences is also another reason teaching is going to fit my personality so well. My most inspiring moments within public school is when my senior English teacher told me to write about the one thing I believed in. I wrote exactly that for her, I am a proud survivor of domestic violence, and she helped me find my voice to be able to even begin to comprehend what I had gone through at eighteen. This is only one of my personal examples of how influential teachers have been to my life. I also witnessed my 7th grade Geography teacher and head football coach of the middle school become the leading legal guardian role of a student just a couple grades above me without any family ties. Things like that make me want to go into this profession. It isn’t about money or fame, but being able to even slightly enhance someone’s life is an extraordinary

Each person has his or her individual path to follow, no two paths are exactly the same; but, every now and then, paths interweave and people construct bonds with each other. In the case of Sonny and his brother, the narrator, in James Baldwin’s short story, “Sonny’s Blues”, their paths were parallel with one another until they grew up. Sonny left the slums of Harlem, aspiring to become a musician, while his brother settled in Harlem and became a teacher. Although the narrator and his brother ended up with completely different lives, the narrator being a family man with a teaching job and Sonny, an ex-convict playing jazz at a club, are ironically more similar than they are portrayed.…

Amongst students, reading and writing are often considered more daunting tasks compared to speaking and listening. Although some have made the argument that writing in an educational setting is easier because it allows students to share their understanding in a private way the process of writing is considered strictly academic to some. Those who were lacking in writing skills, me included, can relate to the frustration of constructing an introduction paragraph, thesis statement, and so on. A majority of the time I spent writing my high school essays were actually spent erasing and rewriting sentences on subjects that I understood, but could never explain in an articulate manner. For that reason, how writing is handled in the classroom has been a main concern of mine since the beginning of this course.…
