Students are not allowed to chew gum in the classroom, but in Southern states, teachers are allowed to carry guns in a room full of young children. Mass shootings have been occurring in the United States for centuries, but recently school shootings have become disturbingly frequent. Some schools believe that putting dangerous weapons in the hands of teachers will prevent or stop a mass shooting and an armed intruder. Teachers should not be allowed to carry guns in their classroom because guns can lead to targeted attacks against teachers and students, send the wrong message causing fear in students, and can cause more danger by inspiring other mass attacks and getting into the hands of young people.
