Schools should teach skills necessary for life in today’s society and economy such as, managing finances, filing taxes, and applying for jobs. These life skills are based off of a basic understanding of English and grammar, math, and finances. Schools should offer these skills early in a student’s academic career and should build on them as the student progresses trough their educational career. These classes would not be the only ones taught, but they should be as important as math, science, English, and social studies. Getting rid of some other electives required to be taken each semester would allow room for these classes in schools. The classes with this vital content should be taught until the student completely understands the material. These classes should not be taught to pass the test, but rather until the student can fully understand the information, which means that they can accurately apply the information. A time limit should not be predetermined for these classes because they are crucial to the future of the student, but as students understand the material they should move on to the next topic and continue learning so they are not waiting on other kids in the class.
