Teachers Should Be Allowed To Carry Weapons On School Campus

The issue of whether teachers should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on school campus has been a national debate for years now. Will weapons prevent mass shootings in schools? The topic became serious in 2012 when Sandy Hook Elementary School was targeted, and twenty-six innocent people were killed. Since the shooting, there has been a lot of public discussion about how to keep students safe and prevent these mass shootings. The number one concern of a parent is the safety of their children. Shootings like Sandy Hook, Columbine, and Stoneman Douglas have left parents, administrators, and educators feeling like they should be more involved in finding solutions for their children’s safety. With children’s lives on the line, the idea of allowing teachers to carry weapons on school grounds was brought to the table. With school shootings happening more frequently, the topic has become a very serious argument. There are many high risks to the idea. With many concealed guns hidden around school campuses, students would eventually find one if they were in search. It is adding unnecessary harm to the situation. Allowing teachers to have guns on campus would allow more access to weapons. If a mentally unstable student was having a bad day at school, they may try to track down these weapons, and cause harm on other students or even teachers. If teachers were armed, students would have more exposure to gun violence. It would be taking the chance of students hearing gunshots more often, witnessing staff fire guns, and possibly suffering an injury because of a gunfire. This exposure could affect a child’s mental and physical health. Some students never even see guns in their homes while growing up.
