Within the Canadian criminal justice system offenders are often placed back into the community under the supervision of probation officers, as an alternative to incarceration (Griffiths & Murdock, 2014, p. 68). Imposed as a sentence by the Criminal Court judge, in a number of different ways and under different circumstances, probation is the most commonly used strategy for this type of supervision (Griffiths & Murdock, 2014, p. 92). As a teaching assistant, I would like to have an interactive classroom, whether that interaction is between lecturer and the students, or between the students themselves. I believe that lecturing should not be a one-way communication system. As a graduate student, I think it is more important that the students are constantly a part of the process of their own learning.…

This interview took place in Dean Vargas’ office. As a first year advisor in the school of engineering, she has been busy in the past month assisting first year students in picking which type of engineering they are most interested in and helping them to plan their schedules for the upcoming year. This meant that she did not have the time to meet somewhere else. If this were not a factor, I would have suggested meeting in a cafe as that would have caused Dean Vargas to view me less as one of her many students and more as an individual woman, coming to her for assistance in navigating the unique set of circumstance women engineers need to navigate. I believe that as a result of holding the meeting in her office and not in a secondary location,…

Over the course of my seven years teaching high school social studies, I have had the opportunity to learn about the evolving roles and responsibilities of a school administrator from three amazing principals. Henry Kluttz, Kelly Withers, and Angelo DelliSanti have been excellent models for anyone aspiring to be an administrator. Having recently started my own journey towards this leadership role, my knowledge of what makes a great principal has grown exponentially. Having the opportunity to interview a pair of veteran elementary school principals through this assignment has been an eye-opening experience. Having spent the entirety of my teaching career at the high school level has left me with a limited understanding of how an elementary school functions.…
