The first teacher, teacher Ann was reprimanded by the school principal for having a tattoo at one of her hands. He also had a hard time teaching and handling his students because he lacks knowledge and experience on the field. Personal matters like loneliness and problems in his relationships also hindered him from adjusting at the floating school. One day he found the former teacher’s diary (Teacher Ann’s Diary). He reads it and found out that he and the owner of the diary has gone through the same situation. He found himself relating to Teacher Ann’s thoughts and feelings. Both had gone through same experiences, heartbreaks and hardships while teaching at the floating school. He then became inspired and understands how to adapt and handle the kids at the school. The students in the school and the diary of Teacher Ann became Teacher Song’s source of inspiration as he teaches at the floating school.
Although the genre of Teacher’s Diary was on romantic comedy side, it never failed to touch the true meaning of education. It highlighted the some of the undeniable problems in today’s teaching practices. The director employed effective actors who did a great job in conveying different elements and emotions in the film. I think the film would not work without the leads. Teacher Ann’s character, the smarter and more skilled one and Teacher Song, the teacher who at first, is struggling to teach and adapt his life at the floating school. Although the characters of the two teachers are way different from another, they share the same ideals and desires.
