Teachers Carry Guns

Improved Essays
Teachers should not be able to carry guns on school grounds. To begin, a teacher who owns a gun can cause bigger problems because it won’t be able to keep the children at the school 100% safe. The concealed gun can easily get into anyone’s hand and could easily be fired at anytime. This is not safe because someone can harm another person which would cause major issues. It would be better off if teachers don’t have guns so there are no situations like that. Also, allowing teachers to carry guns will increase crime. Arming teachers would prevent shooters from coming if they were looking for an easy target (Hagin, Para. 14). This intimidates the shooter because they know that they won't have an easy target at all and that they would most likely die. Matthew Santoni, a well known journalist states,“Gun-free zone to a maniac -- because they're all cowards -- a gun-free zone is 'let's go in and let's attack because bullets aren't coming back at us. If we did not arm teachers then the shooter would know that it is a gun free zone and come (“Arming Teacher Pros”, 18-19). Not arming teachers in this situation is an absolute disaster, thinking about it a shooter could come in as a free soul with no problem to kill anyone they see, but with teachers armed and trained then the teachers could easily rush to the situation and take care of it.…

Gun-free zones hinder both students and teachers, not criminals. Because of gun restriction laws implemented on schools, teachers and law abiding adults are unable to legally carry guns for protective purposes. However, if it were required that teachers took training courses about guns and kept a gun inside of their classrooms, then a multitude of deaths could be prevented. Gun-free zones, especially with regards to schools, should be removed since criminals are not compliant beings, the arrival time of police is often delayed, and police are not always enough to efficiently stop a shooter, allowing teachers to have guns.…

If teachers have access to the weapons, an intruder could also gain access only increasing the potential for violence. Concealed handguns in the schools would be kept in a secure area and teachers and administrators would have strict procedures in carrying the gun on school grounds. There would be more responsibility for the teachers and administrators, but in order to protect students teachers would welcome new regulations. Proposals offered by the gun lobby to repeal the federal Gun-Free School Zones Act and arm teachers as a solution to curb those rare instances of gun violence at school. Teachers are not trained law enforcement officers – their purpose is to be educators and role models. Gun violence prevention measures for our schools should focus on educating kids about the dangers of firearms, and reminding gun-owning parents to safely own and secure firearms and ammunition, rather than on arming teachers. A study of 37 school shootings in 26 states found that in nearly two-thirds of the incidents, the attacker got the gun from his or her own home or…

There is a lot of cost that would go into this. For example the state has to pay for the gun and ammo. Where does this money come from are people willing to pay more taxes. Also if a teacher got a gun what is stopping them from shooting kids most kids do not think it would make them feel safe. Also teachers are not in their mind to shoot a student they are trained and are in the mentality to care and nurture students not put a hole in them.…

What I think... Teachers should not have guns because what if a kid got caught in a crossfire of the guns. Another reason that teachers should not carry guns is like at a high school kids if they got left in a room Unattended and the teacher the the gun in the desk and the kid knew it and the kid got ahold of the gun. Then that would end in disaster. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that what if a student had been constantly annoying and being disrespectful and the teacher finally just snapped and shot the kid, that would send the teacher to jail and the kid either to heaven or to the hospital. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that teachers are there to teach the kids not be a security guards or a babysiter.…

These teachers should go through the most intensive background check because they have the ability to hurt a lot more kids than a random person trying to shoot up a school. If the teachers can get a hold on a gun and then tell the guy with the gun that every class is packed and ready to shoot then I believe the maniac will come to his senses and get out of the school. I feel the same way about guns in the workplace. For example at my mom's shop, she was looking at the cameras and someone was breaking into a truck late at night and instead of my mom having a gun for self-defense at her work place she had to take cover as the robber shot a bullet in her direction. This is why I feel so strongly about gun rights and where you can and can't take them.…
