Typically, a nation would want to take care of what develops and keeps the country running right? Well in the case of the United States, this is not true. Teachers in South Dakota last in teacher salary in the United States. When your salary is just above the poverty line odds are you aren’t going to be that motivated to do your job. Not only does low salary for teachers cause lack of motivation but it also causes less people to join the field of teaching. There could be thousands of good teachers out there in the country that choose not to go into the profession just because they don’t want to just hover above poverty, and I don’t blame them. Tax payers are the people that pay to have teachers in public schools. However, a very small percentage of that tax payer’s money goes to teachers in public schools. It goes to mostly infrastructure projects within the state like building roads and public buildings. The government just favors these kinds of projects more than the institution of education all around the state. South Dakota isn’t the only governing body that has been depriving payment to teachers. The national government is just as guilty of undervaluing and underfunding education as some states including South Dakota are. It has gotten to the point that people are taking the issue to social media. America has a mixed economy, but for the most part it is a capitalist market in the United States. Capitalism is an economic philosophy that centers around the idea that you get as much profit as you earn. In other words, you as an individual will keep all that you earn and your money won’t be taken away from you and redistributed. This all sounds good and all when you put it like that, but there are ways that this can be abused. Other than putting students out into the world, teachers really don’t have anything to sell the world. Unfortunately for teachers and other people in the education field we aren’t teaching objects and then selling them into the world.
