Overview My journey through the UCM CPPP program has been very transformational. I selected this program based on positive feedback from peers. I thought a journey into an administrative role could be a distant possibility, but I was quite content in my current role in the classroom. This program completely changed my perspective.…
Since Tim Apodaca’s arrival at Highland Park as a teacher (he's also a graduate of HP) I've seen him strive every day to improve his pedagogy, curriculum, and techniques- almost to a fault. His natural, easy rapport with students combined with his unrivaled knowledge of his subject area (He was the lead mechanic for this school district for ten years, maintain 501’s fleet of vehicles!)-make him a standout in the classroom as an educator. What makes him distinguished, however, is his constant quest to improve himself as a professional. Not a day goes by that Tim doesn't stop by my room (To be fair, he is next door to me!)…
The article talks about how “she” in the past didn’t really think she could teach well. Ut after meeting with a fellow teacher it seems as she has decided to work out of her normal range, to ty and better herself as teacher. “Lasting change in teacher practice is difficult because it expects that teachers challenge and reconstruct deeply embedded practices and beliefs (Borko & Putnam, 1996; Pennington, 2005). For Grace, a third-grade teacher, practitioner research with the Triad Teacher Researchers (TTR) provided a space for her to change beliefs and practices about being a teacher” (Vetter, 2012). Teachers I think can teach if they feel they have the support of fellow administration or teachers.…
Ethics is the broad theme of ISLLC Standard 5. The activities related to this standard provided me with a means to reflect on my personal code of ethics, explore ethics from the perspective of a district official, and to hear others’ perspectives of ethics in the school organization. The first activity allowed me to interview Richard Stiverson, a school board member, regarding his code of ethics. The interview was insightful and did not veer far from what I consider to be ethical. With regard to this activity, I was able to grasp the notion that ethical behavior is paramount to building and maintaining trust in an organization.…
Mrs. Pearson has been teaching for five years. Before she began teaching, she was a registered nurse for seven years, and also worked in the emergency room and on the medical/surgical floor. She has been teaching Health Science at Amory her entire teaching career. The Health Science program at Amory is split up into two years.…
Partners Mentoring Youth was founded in 1978 as Larimer County Partners, Inc. in response to a need that was lacking in northern Colorado. Community leaders in the 1970's saw a dramatic increase in the number of youth offending, entering the Juvenile Justice system and then re-offending. The District Attorney, Mayor and other business and community leaders, seeking ways to help these youth, found the Partners model being used effectively in Denver as a youth-mentoring program. We have since changed our name to Partners Mentoring Youth and are an affiliate in the statewide Partners Mentoring Association (PMA).…
I am extremely excited at the prospect of attending the Master of Physician Assistant Program at Eastern Virginia Medical School. I have extensively researched many programs, and am incredibly fortunate to have found a school whose program mission, vision, and values are so closely aligned with my own motivations for becoming a PA, as well as with my professional aspirations upon graduation; I hope to work in a Health Professional Shortage Area, where I can deliver patient-centered primary care to those most in need. EVMS’ vision to be the most community-oriented school of medicine and health professions in the country, diverse study body, impressive first-time PANCE pass rates, and the abundance of educational and outreach-oriented clubs and community service opportunities have all convinced me…
My desire for becoming a healthcare provider began as a little girl. At a young age, I carried a stethoscope around, patched my dolls with colorful Band-Aids and gave them their shots. I wanted to heal and care for them. As time went by, what seemed like a simple childhood aspiration, evolved into a need and a true desire to care for others. Despite some difficulties in my early college years, I still have the same passion to fulfill my dreams.…
This letter is to express my interest in the position as a Residential Assistant for The New School. I also sent my resume showing my experience, competence and reliability as a team member. This position caught my eye as soon as I stepped foot on campus, my parents and I were introduced to Ms. Marsha Dawson at a mixer and through her I gained an awareness of the possibilities of becoming an RA. I then did my own research and came away with the sense of pride that if given the opportunity, I would embrace the resident assistant (RA) position is truly a special one. Indeed, the job of an RA is to care about the residents, and few people in this world can claim that they are entrusted to and compensated to care about others.…
“You’d make a great RA one-day Grant.” Stated my favorite teacher in high school. Because I really did not know the requirements and duties of a resident assistant, I started to look into it and realized that my personality really did fit with this job. In my opinion though, being a resident assistant would not even be seen as a job because I would enjoy it very much. During the end of September, I approached my resident assistant with all of my questions about trying to get this position.…
I am a student at Pasadena City College. I am taking the Child Development 20 (Introduction to Curriculum Planning) this semester. For this class, I am required to complete five observations. I am currently working at Canyon Early Learning Center in Monrovia as a teacher’s aide. I work with preschool children at this site.…
I have always desired a career that will make a difference by targeting populations, highlight prevention methods, and one that will be a challenge. Prior to obtaining my MPH, I had the opportunity to intern with the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) in the Environmental Health Branch program called the Chemical Hazards Program (CHP). I assisted the CHP staff by creating and maintaining a database from their Environmental Health Education Needs Assessment on a Superfund site investigation in relation to uranium in private well-water. The health data was then evaluated, recommendations were made, and, as a result, I co-authored the Environmental Health Education Needs Assessment Report which entailed details of the project/study.…
Becoming a teacher is a career path I came across while working for the Realizing Amazing Potential (R.A.P.) before and after school program. In my undergraduate program I always knew I wanted to working with children, but it was a challenge for me to choose one career path I felt my work would make a difference. The defining moment for my career was the passion I found working with special need students, and the hard work to help them succeed academically. Being part of the education growth for students with special needs helped me find the career path I fell in love with, and knew I wanted to continue to advance my education in the field. The passion of helping students with special needs is a career I love and allows me to want to continue…
I am interested in becoming a teacher in DPS because I have worked very closely with DPS throughout my licensure program. I love the challenges I have faced along the way with my work at closing the achievement gap. I have never wanted to work anywhere else since realizing I wanted to become a teacher. I anticipate that some of the challenges I will face in the classroom are those I have began to see in Student Teacher Residency already such as language barriers having to be overcome with scaffolding supports while still providing rigor to the students who do not have a language barrier. Another challenge I have witnessed in my work with DPS is economic, what I mean by this is that I have worked with student who come from families who are living…
