People who are thinking of entering the teaching profession and even those who are already teaching should ask themselves why they are making this choice. Their motives may include a love of children, a desire to impact knowledge or to perform a valuable service to society. Other reasons may include job security or benefits. Nonetheless, any reason for choosing teaching as a career will undoubtedly affect your attitude and behavior with your students. I consistently explored ways to make lessons effective for all my students. My greatest accomplishment at that time as an educator was coaching my students to learn new skills and concepts. I planned, over planned and learned to be flexible enough to change the plans at any given moment. I was able to see the dynamics of children learning.
Every school year I strived to provide a supportive learning environment. The teacher leadership program shifted my thinking about student learning and success. I learned throughout the teacher leadership program that it was evident that my students become responsible for their own learning. My students learned to admire being in charge and having an input with their learning.
My students have gained leadership, confidence and their social skills increased as they worked with their peers to learn more knowledge. For example, my students chose workstation activities which catered to their learning styles. They were responsible for their learning and contribution to making their education a success. Students learned to work cooperatively together in groups.
