John Quincy Adams once stated, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” This quote is the very essence of teacher leadership: inspiring educators to question, improve, modify, and building a community of learning for the benefit of students by being an agent of change. Often times, we as teachers become comfortable. We get used to a set of routines and norms, but teacher leadership is about adjusting and making changes based on the needs of our students. When applying the skills of teacher leadership, we must often re-evaluate and amend our teaching philosophies, initiate and organize needs assessments, and implement and execute action plans to improve the educational culture of our schools. Teaching philosophies should regularly change or adjust to the needs of society, students, and teachers. Danielson (2006) explains that successful schools do not become frozen in old practices; educators need to embrace inquiry and be open to changes needed to meet the needs of students. Written at the beginning of the course, my teaching philosophy discusses the need for data driven curriculum, involvement in school activities, differentiation based on student needs, and the importance of a positive classroom culture. When reflecting on this philosophy, it becomes apparent that adjustments should already be made to improve upon my teaching philosophies. Teacher leaders are flexible and willing to adjust…
