These standard guidelines are to assist us to evaluate where a child might be, in comparison to his or hers age and peers of their own age. The anticipatory guidelines are not always cut and dry but do give us a idea at what level the children are on and how we can relate, teach and communicate with them the best, on their level. When looking at a three year old child they are learning how to get along with other children. A three year old will use imaginary play to develop cognitive and social-emotional growth. Play scenes can help with expressing feelings. Encourage them to express what happened in their day. Allow them to read along with you and "tell" or make up the endings. Peer play is necessary for this age group to learn socialization. Allow them to make choices like clothing, toys, books etc. they can pedal a tricycle and speak short sentences. Allow them to gain confidence is helping with small tasks such as getting the mail, setting the table, …show more content…

Help them to develop their since of self, by allowing them to dress themselves, picking out their own clothes, and favorite books. Unit 3 Discussion In mathematics, squaring a number is basically multiplying it by itself. It is simply impossible for two different numbers, when squared, to give the same results, because all positive real numbers have two square roots; a positive and a negative. For instance, in the following problem,(x^2=4) although it may seem as (x = 2) is the only solution, that is not true. If you solve using the Square Root Property, you can conclude that there are two solutions; (x = 2 or x = -2).…

The child in the picture is spelling a word, we can see her dragging the letter upwards to complete the letter, using her hand to move the letters to the right position on a projector in the classroom, while using a website on the internet. According to Misco (3a) children concentrate, as we can see in the picture, when using digital tools and are more engaged in learning and motivated because they comprehend more when they are in a 'hands-on' lesson.…

The four stages are: Birth – two years - sensorimotor stage, two years to seven years – preoperational stage, seven years to eleven years – concrete operational stage, and eleven years to fifteen years – formal operational stage. This paper will address a classroom designed to benefit the development of toddlers who are in the preoperational stage (Lefrancois, 2012). Children in the early preoperational stage are extremely egocentric; that is they are unable to think about things from any point of view but their own (McLeod, 2010). Toddlers believe that everyone else sees, feels, and thinks the exact same way as they do.…

I learned a lot from this OIR that will affect my future teaching career hopefully in a better approach. I learned that some children develop slower than others and some develop quicker. All children achieve milestones at different times in their lives. Seeing that some children need a little extra help (guidance in independence and taking responsibility) and some children don’t, show that when I’m a teacher, I’m going to have to accommodate to these children’s needs as much as possible. I also learned that some children need more time than others to develop.…

When starting Daily 5 for the first time with a class, it is important to start small and build up from there. Repetition is also very important when beginning Daily 5. It is important to have short practice sessions and then come back together and talk about how it went. This will help the students to nail down a few places that are best for them when it comes to reading independently. On the first day of school the author encourages the teacher to let the students look around and chose a few book they think are good fit books for them.…

The Effects of the Lack of Play on Learning: The first few years are the most crucial for brain development and research has shown that stimulating play and learning experiences for children help to build connections in the brain called neural pathways which are essential for cognitive development. Lack of these opportunities restricts the development of these pathways, slowing down or delaying learning in the short term and affecting a child’s chances in the long term. Play is one of the main ways in which children interact with one another and form relationships. Lack of social interaction can lead to a child not being able to learn how to co-operate, develop confidence as well as problem solving and thinking skills.…

By the age of 4-5 years a child can usually play cooperatively and well with other children. They may also be able to sort out minor disagreements between themselves. They are able to tolerate delay for longer periods especially when this is explained to link in with routine of the day which they are now familiar with. They show concern when they can see their peers visibly upset and will try to comfort them. As language has developed they are able to express their emotions through language rather than behaviour.…

The reason why it’s important to discuss developmental milestones with families regularly from the beginning is because we need to help the child achieve the milestones. When the caregivers aren’t present, it’s important for the family members to try and help the child at home with achieving the milestone. From the beginning to the present, many things could change in the child’s developmental milestones. Like to see if the child has made any progress since the beginning and if they did then head towards the new milestone and if not think of ways to help achieve the milestone. I thought that Ms. Carolyn communicated nicely with David’s mom.…

The issue on a child’s cognitive development is also bought up when it comes to applying mindfulness techniques, because majority of research on mindfulness is conducted on adults. Semple, Lee and Miller (2006, cited in Baer, 2006) argue that there are cognitive and interpersonal functions that cannot be generalised from adults to children. (Jha, 2005, cited in Thomson and Gauntlett-Gilbert) also mentions that it is vital for child to develop in order to understand the teachings of mindfulness. Wagner, Rathus and Miller (2006, in Thompson and Gauntlett-Gilbert) argue that unlike CBT, mindfulness requires children need to have reached the formal operational stage which occurs around the age of 12 and are able to make abstract and hypothetical…
