My interpretation of this is to make sure that the drugs are kept at a room temperature, tightly sealed when not being used, and as stated before, making sure they are locked away when not being used. This is not to only adhere to the policy of the Joint Commission and CMS but having the medications locked away appropriately is required by law (“Joint Commission and CMS crosswalk”). On top of this, I would make sure the other element is being implemented according to the Joint Commission and CMS standard (482.23(c) (6)), documentation (“Joint Commission and CMS crosswalk”).
