Achieve Economic Well-Being Schools have a responsibility to equip children and young people with the life skills necessary for them to be able to prosper with the next stage of their education which will lead them into adulthood. It is important to have a positive attitude to help them achieve success through their learning. Living in a household free from low income is important for every child and young person. Being economically disadvantaged can have a negative impact on a child`s learning. Families with low incomes do receive help with the cost of school uniforms and educational trips. Many schools have sales of used school uniform which can benefit pupil`s from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Social Services/ Children`s Services Department employ Social Workers to support children and families through difficult times. They are to protect children and safeguard them from harm. The Social Worker will work with school`s to interview and assess individuals and families who require help and support. They will participate in meetings alongside other professionals, for example child protection. They undertake and write up assessments which will detail actions needed to provide an effective outcome for the individual or family involved. They prepare reports for legal action and give evidence in court. The Children Act (2004) requires every local authority area to have a Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB). The LSCB have a range of roles and statutory functions which include developing the local safeguarding policies and procedures which are in place and undertaking serious case reviews and advising on lessons to be learned. It is important that school`s implement all the relevant policies and procedures which are set. It is the school`s responsibility to ensure that everybody in the school environment in contact with children are informed and trained on these. Staff need to be aware of the procedures for reporting concerns i.e. how they document them, and who they are reported
