Tayari Jones's Silver Sparrow Is Great So Far

Decent Essays
Silver Sparrow is great so far. I think the novel is intriguing and interesting. I have only read the first six chapters but I am hooked. I am enjoying the plot in the book as well. In my opinion, I do not agree with a man having two families, but I am deeply engaged with what is going on. I believe the plot is great and I have a lot more to read, but Tayari Jones has done a great job with making sure readers are fascinated. I am currently at the spot in the book where Dana is dating Marcus and Gwen is noticing Dana is acting differently. The book so far has explained a lot about Dana and Gwen's life but not as much as Laverne and Chaurisse's life. Dana is my favorite character. I believe she is a smart girl and she definitely has the brains

After falling in love with It Ends With Us, and crying for days after it was over, I was excited and nervous to read yet another emotional Colleen Hoover book. Without Merit didn't have much of a description, so needless to say I was going into this book pretty blindly. Once I finished the 1st chapter, I was already hit with some crazy news, which ultimately led into a story that I was not expecting.…

Throughout this summer I read the book “Dreaming in Chinese: Mandarin Lessons in Life, Love, and Language” by Deborah Fallows. It is a memoir about the discoveries Deborah Fallows made through her journey of living in China for three years. She wrote about the good and bad but also the different things she learned in the process. For example she wrote about her troubles when she first started getting introduced to the different tones, but then she learned that although the tones may sound the same, the character is what changes the different tone to the different meaning. Her example was that shī (狮), shí (十), shǐ (使), shì (是) sound the same but mean lion, ten, to make, and to be because the different characters change the meaning.…
