Scope of the job

Entering individual and business tax returns into the tax software. This position is interesting because it exposes me to a variety of tax returns and a multitude of coordinating tax schedules such as A, B, C, D, and E. Training is a “learn by doing” approach. For example, as part of the job, I match returns for new clients in the prior years’ software program, and the challenges of matching a return, are in and of itself self-training. Finally, the accountant will pro forma the return to print the tax organizer and/or process the return for the current tax year. Day-to-day, there is never a dull moment and time goes by quickly. For example, professionally, I am learning that to become skilled in accounting repetition is key for me. Part of entry-level accounting and tax work involves fundamentals. It was interesting to see many tax returns (done by others outside of this entity) and items were clearly missed or misinterpreted. So that proves to me the important work accountants do and to take the trust clients put into “us” very seriously. On a personal level, I am learning not to take rejection too seriously. I want everything to be perfect, and I simply can’t hit a “home-run” in every paper I write, assignment I turn in, or exam I take because I have a finite amount of time to devote to studies. Professionally, public accounting is naturally challenging with hard fast deadlines, clients waiting until the last minute, and information overload. In this particular C.P.A. firm, I have a four bosses, and each one is uniquely different. Hence, their expectations vary as well. Since I am still in the learning phase both in college and in the workplace, I find it challenging to make each partner happy with their given expectancies.
