Tattoos Make Me Research Paper

Decent Essays
I hate that our parents, employers, and society look at tattoos like its something bad, its art on my body, why is that so bad, its not that different than dying your hair, painting your nails, or putting on makeup, other than the fact that its permanent, and so what if it is, it doesnt change who I am as a person. If I see something that I like and I think is beautiful, and I want it on my body, why is that so bad? Is having lets say a rose on my arm change who I am, or make me a bad person? They say having tattoos makes you look uneducated, oh I'm sorry I didnt know having my brothers initals tattooed on me lowered my level of education. 
I dont care if you think it looks unclassy, trashy or whatever else you wanna call it, its on my body

Even Ancient Cultures Thought Tattoos Were Cool If you have a tattoo today, chances are that someone told you that you were making a mistake putting the ink on your body forever. Tattoos can be seen as; a fashion trend, a commitment to an organized group (such as a military branch or a street gang), a symbolic act of remembrance, a rebellious act by a teenager trying to prove a point to their parents, etc. The lesser known fact behind tattooing however, is that is an art that has been practiced since the neolithic period. Tattoos can be found in nearly every culture across the globe, and many cultures have thousand-plus year histories with the art.…

There is a famous saying by unknown author that says, “sometimes the nicest people you meet are covered in tattoos and sometimes the most judgmental people you meet go to church on Sundays,” this quote helps to examine how looks doesn’t matter but action does. Having tattoos shouldn’t be considered against social norms and value because tattoo should be looked as freedom of speech or of expression. In Ronald P. White’s article “The Art, the First Amendment and the Courts” helps demonstrates how tattoos and the art of tattooing are forms of pure expression fully protected by the 1st Amendment which helps protects freedom of speech. People get tattoos to tell one’s story to the world through a visual representation of an important moment, person…

Harper Lee once said “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” This problem still happens today, everyone judges a person without evening knowing them. When someone judges someone with tattoos and piercings they automatically think he is a bad guy but that isn’t always true. Their point of view can be totally wrong but they would never know. They will never get to truly know the person because their point of view shows them as bad people.…

Dr. Lauren Dundes and Antonia Francis in the journal article, “Inking and Thinking: Honors Students and Tattoos” (2016), suggest that, for Honor students, tattoos are an act of defiance in reference to the expectations placed on them. Dundes and Francis support their claims by presenting evidence from a study the authors conducted. The author’s purpose is to explain why there is a substantial difference in the number of honors versus non-honors students who get tattoos in order to prove that honor students’ decisions to get tattoos are less likely to be based on outside influences. Although some Honors students get tattoos an act of defiance, they still contemplate getting tattoos for up to one year (Dundes and Francis 219).…

Tattoos and why they should not be considered deviant Humans have marked their bodies with tattoos for thousands of years. These permanent designs, sometimes plain, sometimes elaborate, always personal markings have served as amulets, status symbols, declarations of love, signs of religious beliefs, adornments and even forms of punishment. When growing up, parents tell their children to not write on themselves for different reasons, such as, possible ink poisoning or presenting an undesirable appearance. So what makes tattoos different from what our parents said? Before someone gets a tattoo, many people do not think about the damage the ink will cause and how that person will feel about the tattoo later on. Along with that, why does someone need to memorialize someone or have a design that can be turned into a necklace or a bracelet that doesn’t harm your skin?…

On the way to Skatler Ink on the South side of town, Scott still couldn’t think of a tattoo so perfectly original and different. It was a windy day and Scott’s loose grip on his cash inevitably ended up with the wind snatching up his money and running it down the street like a touchdown pass. He followed it down a dark alley that came to a sketchy, vandalized, brick-wall dead end.…

According to the research by Pew, 17% people have regrets after getting their tattoo, but there are about 29% of people who feel rebellious and sexy after getting a tattoo (Carlsen 2014). However there are many who consider tattoo as a form of art and personal expressions, using their body to tell a story like Johnny Depp, who said his body is his diary and his tattoos are his stories (2013). Even though tattoo’s been around for centuries, there are certain generation who are simply against tattooing and their reason is because of societies opinion; in other words, “what will people think”. Annie Singer from Forbes Magazine demonstrates in her article “Tattoos in the workplace” how tattoos are slowly being accepted in the workplace. Tattooing in modern society exists in a state of complexity, but by the recent increases in popularity, by its prevalence in the media and by the growing number of tattooed individuals suggests society’s acceptance of tattooing as a social norm.…
