Tattoos are very controversial in the professional career industry. In today’s social environment, appearance plays a large role in how people will treat and view you. Although tattoos are becoming more acceptable in the work place, many people still frown upon tattoos. People think that others that have ink on their body are less than them, uneducated or even incapable of doing things that are required for a job. Someone that has visible tattoos risks narrowing the amount of careers available because of the placement of their tattoos. In a professional work place, it is expected of people to have a clean and well-dressed appearance. Many people would not want a lawyer or doctor that has even one visible tattoo, simply because people …show more content…
The fact that one person has a tattoo should be no one’s business. The body art on someone does not always tell their story or show their ability to work. The main issue in today’s society is that most people judge someone solely by their appearance. Saying that because some has a tattoo they are incompetent, is similar to saying a student is incompetent because he or she failed one class. There are many doctors that have multiple tattoos but no one would ever know unless they saw the doctor out of his or her workplace. Discriminating someone because of their body ink is similar to discriminating someone because of their race, gender, color, national origin, or religion. Plenty of military veterans have tattoos on their body and they are well respected, there is no reason to judge, disrespect, or discriminate someone because of their choice to have a little …show more content…
Having an unclean appearance such as visible tattoos will jeopardize one’s chances of obtaining a professional career. People think that if somebody has a tattoo that they are instantly less of a person or not as educated as them In fact there are a large number of people out in the world that have tattoos and are very intelligent and/or important in one way or another. One day somebody may be walking down the street and see a man or women that has tattoos all of their body, and then the next day they see them fully dressed up in a suit or in medical clothes ready to perform surgery. Just because one has ink on their body that does not mean that they are not any less of a person than them. When someone decides to get a tattoo, the placement is something to consider greatly. When someone goes into an interview with a tattoo either on the face, neck, wrists, hands, fingers, or even forearms without any attempt to cover them up, the interviewee may think they are incapable of handling the tasks or they are not taking the interview serious all because of the poor placement of the tattoo.
