Now a days people in society want to fit in badly or either want to be unique from other people. Everyone in the world is different from one another no matter what. Three main things that make ones appearance different are tattoos, body piercings, and also hairtyles but one in particular is dreadlocks. While there are many reasons for one's appearance, most times the risk may outweigh the rewards. There are many causes as to why people get tattoos, body piercings, and dreadlocks. A cause for tattoos is stated in the article "Tattoos and Body Piercing : Self-Expression or Self-Mutilation?" by Elizabeth Chabner Thompson, MD, MPH where she says "Tattoos often sybolize uniqueness, bond with others, and artistic individuality." basically saying they are getting tattoos …show more content…
In the article that Dr. Thompson worte she states "The risks that go along with tattooing, however are many, and primarily came from the introduction of unkown chemicals, or inks, into the sking with a needle" meaning that tattoos cause big health issues which becomes hard to try and cure it because of the ink in the body. Effects from body piercings are about the same as tattoos because it also causes health issues that require medical help. The only difference with both of them is that from having body piercings makes it harder to take X-rays and MRI's making them take it off as Dr. Thompson stated. With dreadlcoks isn't really the same kind of effects as the other ones but instead recieve a lot of stereotyping. The people with dreadlocks are looked as smokers. Some are really brought down by this because they might not be smokers at all. An example is where I once had a friend with dreadlocks who doesnt smoke at all and we were once in a gathering with different poople and they asked him to smoke because they thought he was a big smoker mean while he doesnt smoke at all. Most times the apperance of one really do come with effects as the examples
