Everyone deals with stereotypes and misconceptions that label them, and tattooed people are no exception. Many stereotypes and misconceptions regarding tattooed people exist mainly because of television, news, and the strong influence social media can have on society. Most of the time television, news, and social media cannot be a reliable source for many people. People’s choice or form of entertainment often portrays tattooed people as unprepossessing. The news always speaks of bad occasions that happen and reveal a picture of a criminal at fault, one with plenty of tattoos. Not all criminals have tattoos and not all tattooed people are criminals. The stereotypes children learn will determine how they will react when being exposed to a particular group of people. Since children learn about stereotypes when they interact with an adult that has a tattoo, the kids often feel frightened and believe themselves to be in a potentially dangerous situation, simply because the television portrays tattooed individuals as evil people or gangsters.
