Famous tattoo artist and tattoo parlour owner, Kat Von D once said: "I am a canvas of my experiences, my story is etched in lines and shading, and you can read it on my arms, my legs, my shoulders, and my stomach." I admire the fact that she is courageous enough to display the story of her life on her body for everyone to see. However, what do you think would happen if this famous entrepreneur and say a woman of the same age, with the same amount of experience and the same qualifications were both to apply for the same job? Who do you think would be employed? To me it should be down to how well they interview or how well suited they are for the job but many employers would immediately write Kat off for her tattoos.

What happens when you are old and embarrassed of your tattoos? What happens when your skin ages, you get wrinkles and the skin starts to sag? All skin starts to sag with age, yes the colour in the tattoo may fade but that happens less and less now with advances in tattoo ink and the colour can always be touched up. Skin that starts to sag could be a insecurity for some people but if you are a person with tattoos you could look at the skin that is starting to sag you will look down at a beautiful piece of art work that could have lots of memories and stories behind it. But what happens when you are in a care home and you will still have all your tattoos even after you can't take care of yourself anymore? To be perfectly honest I do not believe that you will be the only person in that situation because "According to a survey by the Guardian, a fifth of all British adults have now been inked." So in any care home I am sure would be filled with many fellow tattooed people and tattoo lovers both residents and

It’s no secret that many people get memorial tattoos to honor the deceased. For many, it is a way of carrying that special person(s) around with them. Simply because someone made the decision to get a tattoo does not mean necessarily that they are incapable of performing the tasks ask of them in the job titles description. Tattoos and intelligence have absolutely no relevance to one another. In my opinion tattoos should be openly accepted, simply because they are a form of artistic expression and individuality. I being an individual in the category of those with tattoos don’t see a problem with them in the work place perimeters. Self expression is a big part of what makes us special people.…

Is there a difference between men having tattoos in the workforce compared to women? Men are seen more as a punk rock kind of life style where women are not, so if you are going to be a wild woman a lot of the social norms would like to see you as lady like in the streets and visible tattoos make that impossible in some eyes. Despite what people say the main reason people do not get hired in the workforce because of body art is usually due to the location. If a man has a neck tattoo he is more than likely not going to get hired but if a women has one she might get hired because she can cover it up with long…

To Hire Ink or Not To Hire Ink Audience: My audience is business owners who are not overly religious and have a more conservative traditional view about what the employee work appearance should be. They would be willing to start looking at the qualifications of an applicant as opposed to judging them on personal appearance. They are right now most likely to pass up a person with tattoos based on stereotypes about the type of person who would have tattoos. I believe that business owners are just trying to do what is best for their businesses but might be missing out on someone who would be a valuable addition to their staff. While I do agree that there needs to be limits as to what is acceptable…

Tattoos, Mental Illness, and Narratives Narratives are significant to our lives as humans, we create internal narratives about our relationships, careers, perceptions, and struggles by entwining experiences over time in order to interpret them in meaningful ways (Haldey, 2013).
