Although this animal is a Loony Tunes Character it has the strength to break a man’s arm. Many people know the tasmanian devil as a Loony Tunes cartoon character, but is actually a real animal. The scientific name for the tasmanian devil is Sarcophilus harrisii, it is a most unusual mammal that closely resembles a dog or a ferret (San Diego Zoo).
Tasmanian devils live in tasmania (Australia) and they used to be found all over Australia but they went extinct on the mainland 400 years ago so they now reside in the safe lands of Tasmania where they can live in peace and tranquility. One of the reasons that they don't live on the mainland of Australia is because humans would hunt them down because early settlers believed that they were the devil. Another reason why the tasmanian devil has disappeared on the mainland is because of a brutal cancerous disease that has spread like wildfire and still does today. (San Diego Zoo).
Next is the diet, The tasmanian devils diet mainly consists of pretty much anything that they can scavenge but when they go hunting for food they usually eat lizards, frogs, and insects. A fun fact about the tasmanian devil is that they eat up to 40% of their body weight a day and an adult will eat up to one kilogram a day. These animals have become some not so picky eaters as they will just about anything that they know that they can kill and sometimes will try to eat things that are bigger than them.
