Task Force: A Short Story

After one of our first meetings with the Task Force, L and I decided that our system of hopping hotels wasn't going to work forever. That was when we put in place the plans to build a facility just for the Task Force. The sleek design was more my idea while the efficiency of it was handled by L, but we agreed for it to have twenty-three floors and another two below ground. The two helicopters were hidden on the roof, and cars and trucks were kept in the parking garage. It had a state-of-the-art security system, a complete surveillance room, a meeting room, high-tech computers, luxury suites for everyone, and anything else we might need.

Light picked himself up, and L did the same, "Yes. Yes, it is. And you should hear yourself. It's as if you both won't be satisfied unless I'm Kira." When he glanced at me, I looked away quickly, which was probably all the answer he needed. It wasn't that I wanted him to be Kira, it was that he was too perfect not to be, and we knew he was. I wasn't going to be happy until Kira was caught, and if that meant Light, then so be it.

"I won't be satisfied unless you're Kira? Well, there may be some truth to that. In fact, now that you mention it, you're right. I think I wanted you to be Kira," L admitted. Light punched him in the eye again, but he definitely wasn't as fazed as last time. "As I said before, an eye for an eye. I'm a lot stronger than I look, you know." And that was probably one of the truest things I had ever heard because I hadn't known he could do anything remotely close to that during the whole time I was with him, which made me a bit more irritated as I realized something.
